Cooling System

My 2009 Q5 with 25000 miles on it developed a cooling system leak. when the warning light came on I brought it to the nearest station with a mechanic on duty. He said it was a water pump problem. The nearest Audi dealer was 150 miles away. After puting a Gallon and a half of anti freeze in, I made it to dealer. They have it and after the last conversation they stated that they don't believe it is the water pump.They never had a cooling system problem on such a late model vehicle. They are still looking for the leak. They have notified the factory for assistance. I know it leaks, They know it leaks, The factory knows it leaks, you all know it leaks now. My 09 haves 38000 miles and no leaks (knock the wood...)

nor I have read any coolant issues on Q5's while I have kept eye on other forums.

Hopefully your gets sorted out in no time.

Well I finally got an answer and I hope it solves the problem. The factory feels that the leak(which they cannot locate)must be coming through the Thernostat Housing. It is all one unit, not like the old days. The Factory feels if this is replaced it will solve the problem. I hope so, a gallon and a half is a lot of leak. The Dealer drove it over 100 miles and no leak. I hope the problem is solved. Will keep you all advised

I'm working as design engineer for transportation industry and with engines,
consuming tiny amount of oil is ok but coolant level needs to stay same or there is an leak, either external or internal through the gaskets.

Keep eye on yours and take it back to dealer if it goes down.

Just remember to check it same temperature all the time, cold engine coolant level is lower than hot, so if you check it cold then verify it cold and vise versa, hot and hot.

Thanks for all your info. Had the car for a few days and no problem. The level has not moved, when hot and when cold. Thank you all again.
